A straight seam steel pipe is a welded steel pipe in which the weld runs parallel to the longitudinal axis of the pipe. The steel plate or strip is formed into a cylinder and the edges are joined along a single straight line.
According to the production process, straight seam pipe is divided into two main groups: high-frequency straight seam steel pipe (ERW), which is widely used for small and medium diameters, and submerged arc welded straight seam steel pipe (LSAW), which is typically produced from plate for larger diameters and heavier wall thicknesses.
Key features
- Longitudinal weld running parallel to the pipe axis
- Two production routes – high-frequency welding and submerged arc welding
- Short, straight weld seam that is easy to inspect
- Efficient production and good dimensional accuracy
- Can be supplied with external and internal anti-corrosion coatings
Application areas
- Water supply and drainage pipelines
- Oil and gas transmission lines
- Structural and construction applications
- Low- and medium-pressure fluid transport
- Industrial and municipal piping systems
