A plastic-coated steel pipe uses a steel pipe as its base, with a plastic anti-corrosion layer fused to the inner surface through spraying, rolling, dipping or suction processes. It can also be produced as a steel-plastic composite pipe with a plastic anti-corrosion layer on both the inner and outer surfaces. The result combines the strength and rigidity of steel with the corrosion resistance and low friction of plastic.
In water supply systems, the plastic lining separates the water from the steel wall, preventing rust and the discoloration and scaling it causes. The smooth, low-friction bore maintains flow capacity over the life of the line, while the steel body offers far higher strength and impact resistance than an all-plastic pipe.
Key features
- Steel base pipe for mechanical strength and pressure resistance
- Plastic anti-corrosion layer on the inner surface, or on both inner and outer surfaces
- Corrosion resistant – protects the steel from the conveyed medium
- Low friction – smooth inner wall reduces flow resistance and scaling
- Helps protect water quality by preventing rust inside the pipe
Application areas
- Cold and hot water supply in buildings
- Municipal water distribution networks
- Industrial process and cooling water lines
- Water treatment plants and pumping stations
