A plastic-coated steel pipe uses a steel pipe as its base, with a plastic anti-corrosion layer fused to the inner surface through spraying, rolling, dipping or suction processes. It can also be produced as a steel-plastic composite pipe with a plastic anti-corrosion layer on both the inner and outer surfaces. The result combines the strength and rigidity of steel with the corrosion resistance and low friction of plastic.
In electric power applications the pipe serves as a protective conduit for cables. The plastic coating resists corrosion in the ground, while the smooth, low-friction inner surface makes it easier to pull cables through without damaging their insulation. The steel body protects the cables from external loads and mechanical impact.
Key features
- Steel base pipe for mechanical strength and pressure resistance
- Plastic anti-corrosion layer on the inner surface, or on both inner and outer surfaces
- Corrosion resistant – protects the steel from the conveyed medium
- Low friction – smooth inner wall reduces flow resistance and scaling
- Smooth bore that eases cable pulling and protects cable insulation
Application areas
- Buried power cable protection conduits
- Communication and signal cable ducts
- Road, railway and bridge crossings
- Street lighting and urban power networks
