A plastic-coated steel pipe uses a steel pipe as its base, with a plastic anti-corrosion layer fused to the inner surface through spraying, rolling, dipping or suction processes. It can also be produced as a steel-plastic composite pipe with a plastic anti-corrosion layer on both the inner and outer surfaces. The result combines the strength and rigidity of steel with the corrosion resistance and low friction of plastic.
Underground mines expose pipelines to mine water, humidity and aggressive media that quickly attack unprotected steel. The plastic anti-corrosion layer protects the pipe in these conditions, while the steel body withstands pressure and mechanical loads. For mining service, the coating is typically specified to be flame-retardant and antistatic, in line with the safety requirements of the project.
Key features
- Steel base pipe for mechanical strength and pressure resistance
- Plastic anti-corrosion layer on the inner surface, or on both inner and outer surfaces
- Corrosion resistant – protects the steel from the conveyed medium
- Low friction – smooth inner wall reduces flow resistance and scaling
- Coating can be specified for mining safety requirements such as flame retardance and antistatic properties
Application areas
- Mine water drainage lines
- Water supply and dust suppression lines
- Compressed air lines
- Gas drainage and ventilation-related piping
- Fire water lines in underground workings
